Don’t Forget About You

The term “self-care” is pretty broad. For some people, it can mean yoga and green smoothies. For others, it could be settling in for “The Bachelor” with their favorite bottle of wine. Often self-care has been represented as an “excuse” to pamper yourself, but what’s wrong with that? According to Elizabeth Scott, a wellness coach who specializes in stress management, a little indulgence can go a long way. A bubble bath here or facial there “triggers a relaxation response” that helps alleviate chronic stress from busy school/work/internship schedules. Want to draw that bath? Go for it. Need a little red to calm those nerves? Pop that bottle open. Here are some other ways you can pamper yourself and unwind:
Bath Bombs: Shopping at a high-end boutique is tempting, but at $8 per bath bomb you might want to hop on Amazon instead and grab a box of Earth Vibes Natural Bath Bombs, which are $13.95 for a box of six.
Acupressure Massage: Professional massages can add up quickly if you opt for one every week. Get those kinks out of your hunched-over shoulders with an acupressure massage tutorial on YouTube.
Netflix and Chill (for one): Find a comfortable chair, grab a beverage of your choice and settle in for a comedy to help you unwind. This provides a fantastic opportunity for a face mask. Smooth skin and endorphins for the win. Hit up Amazon and grab a 16-pack of Korean Dermal Masks for $10.49.
Meditation: Now, this might seem like a little less of a “treat yourself” moment, but it can be helpful (and provide another opportunity for a face mask). Kick your feet up and take some time to be mindful. Open Spotify and hit play on their “Evening Chill” playlist. Throw your favorite candles or essential oils into the mix to engage more of your senses. FYI, lavender and eucalyptus are great for relaxation.
Life is already hard enough with our everyday responsibilities, so take a load off and pamper yourself. It can go a long way for your mental wellness.
