Weisman Art Museum Offers Accessibility to Professional Artwork

Decorating a house or apartment can be a daunting task, even for the most qualified HGTV consumer. Finding unique and original art isn’t always doable, and sometimes the aisle of mass produced wall art in Target stores just isn’t enough.  Not to mention artwork can be an expensive luxury item out of reach for students.

Thanks to a program offered by the Weisman Art Museum, displaying professional artwork in your home may be easier than you might think. If you’re a student or faculty member at the University of Minnesota, look no further for that next beautiful piece of art for your living room.

The Weisman’s Art Rental Program gives students and faculty the opportunity to rent real pieces of artwork selected by the WAM Collective. Over 300 original pieces are available in the back of the WAM gift shop, and all for an affordable price.

The program charges students $15 per artwork with a limit of 3 pieces and faculty $45 per artwork with a limit of 5 pieces on a semester basis. After the semester is over, you then have the chance to either renew your rental, or switch it out for a fresh, new piece of art. The only condition? Transportation and keeping the art safe is up to you.

Interestingly enough, renting artwork at the University of Minnesota isn’t new for students and faculty. In 1934, the first rental program began at Northrop Auditorium’s Little Gallery, which was the gallery on campus before Weisman, where students had the opportunity to rent prints for 25 cents each.

As of fall 2018, there’s also a new addition to the rental program called the HOMEWORK Collection, which is artwork selected specifically for students. Photos, drawings and prints are all available in this collection full of recognized and new artists. Take a look at more details here!
